Cat & Dog Routine Exams
Help maintain your pet's good health with routine exams from our vets at Dunnellon Animal Hospital. Our focus on preventive care means better long-term health.
Preventive Care
To help your pet maintain fantastic long-term health, it's critical to bring them to your vet regularly for routine exams.
Routine examinations can be combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper nutrition to build a great foundation for your pet's long-term health. These exams include regular physical checkups.
When your pet sees us for their vet checkup at our Dunnellon animal hospital, we can prevent health issues from developing in the first place, or detect them early, when they can be treated most easily and effectively.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical
A thorough physical exam can give your veterinarian a complete picture of your pet's overall health.
The exam will include these elements:
General Condition
Did you know your pet's general demeanor and physical condition can give us clues to their overall health? Their weight in relation to their size, level of alertness, and how they stand and walk all point to how healthy they are overall.
Coat & Skin
Signs of problems often appear in a dog's and cat's coat or skin. We'll check both of these for excessive dryness or oiliness, bumps, lumps, shedding, abnormal hair loss, or dandruff.
Face & Head
We'll check your pet's ears, eyes, and nose for discharge or abnormalities. We will also check the mouth for signs of oral health issues such as periodontal disease or plaque buildup.
Internal Health
Blood pressure, pulse, heart rhythm and rate are essential to heart health. These will be tested to ensure they're within the normal range. The lungs will then be examined for any evidence of abnormal breathing.
Painful or swollen lymph nodes are often an indication of poor health. These will be examined along with the abdomen to ensure the bladder, spleen, liver, stomach, kidneys, and intestines all feel normal, and that your pet is not showing any signs of discomfort.
Puppies & Kittens
In their first few weeks of life, puppies and kittens need proper medical attention.
We can help get your new best friend off to a healthy start by performing a complete physical examination, deworming medications, and appropriate immunizations. You'll be provided with a kitten or puppy kit filled with samples and educational material to help you care for the new four-legged member of your family.
Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about caring for your new pat, both during your appointments or in between visits.
Once your pet's first appointment is complete, you'll need to return periodically for his or her required booster shots.
Seniors
Senior pets are living longer than ever due to recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, in addition to better nutrition and newer therapies.
As your cat or dog ages, regular checkups become increasingly important to ensure their continuing health and longevity.
Along with the routine wellness procedures all adult pets get at Dunnellon Animal Hospital, special attention will be given to your senior pet's potential age-related conditions such as decreased vision or arthritis. Additional laboratory tests will also provide information about your pet's overall health.
Vaccinations & Prevention
Is your pet due for routine vaccinations? We will check on whether they require preventive care during their routine exam.
New patients are always welcome.
We look forward to meeting your precious pet at Dunnellon Animal Hospital.
